COVER REVEAL FOR THE COMMUNE

Woo.

If you’re in the United States, like I am, you know this isn’t a great time to be marketing books. It kind of feels like trying to sell popcorn to people fleeing a burning theater. But here I am, my head on fire, asking you if you need something to read.

I think we’re going to be enduring a constant firehose of bullshit for quite a while, and there isn’t going to ever be a good time to do my cover reveal, will never be a good time to release this series. But I know that a bit of escapism really helps me when things are bad, and a nice, engrossing seven-book series which is ultimately about defeating hatred, the technarchy (in the intuitive sense of the word), and the oligarchy might do others some good.

I may not have personally survived a fascist takeover before, but I have a lot of experience surviving intense crises, like addiction, homelessness, prison, abuse and grief. And while you cannot and should not try to survive crises by avoidance or dissociation, you do need to remember to find normalcy, joy and escape. You cannot live your life constantly on high alert.

Unfortunately, all this *waves hands* is going to be our life for a long time now. We have to live the best we can while fighting this fire. Like a lot of people have said, this is a marathon, not a sprint. You not only deserve joy and laughter, you need it in order to survive to fight another day.

So, you can read the origin story of Tales From Purgatory in a previous blog post if you’d like. I won’t retell it here. Suffice to say this series means A LOT to me and I have worked extremely hard on it. I’m really proud of it and I think if it finds its audience, people will like it almost as much as I do. I’m going to try to spend the summer marketing it to the sorts of hippies and ragers and crystal-licking spiritual wastrels (complimentary) to whom it might appeal. I’m going to have fun doing it, for fuck’s sake.

So, the first book, The Commune, will release on February 25th. Yay! I will be so glad to have it out in the world. You can read the blurb and see THE COVER below! The cover art was done by Mike Bogdanovic and the design by Ashley Redbird of Redbird Design.

BLURB:

Escaping a junkie mom and abusive stepdad, Magdalene steals a drug lord’s money and holes up with some friends-of-a-friend in the middle of BF Utah.

That’s where things go from bad to weird.

The place is called The Society for Consciousness Research, Exploration and Mapping, though they just call it the Commune. It’s led by a genius mathematician who abandoned his academic career to study lucid dreaming and the afterlife. The people there believe some very interesting things. They also seem to be involved in shady investments and money laundering. But whatever her doubts, Magdalene has nowhere else to go.

Then she meets Omar, another Commune member. When he appears in her dreams—and describes them to her when she’s awake—she’s forced to consider that their beliefs might be real.

Omar teaches Magdalene to manipulate the dreamscape and navigate the surreal pathways of the Dead. But strange henchmen with glowing eyes lurk there, and they’re trying to lure Magdalene in. Then there’s the drug lord, who wants his money back and is searching for her.

Pursued by enemies in two dimensions, Magdalene has to figure out who she can trust and what’s real before she gets in over her head.
